Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree in Veterinary Technology

Associate and baccalaureate programs in Veterinary Technology prepare high school graduate students to serve as veterinary technicians and technologists in various job settings under the direction and supervision of a veterinarian. Graduates will apply skills and knowledge to the care and management of small and large animals during clinical laboratory procedures, disease management, animal nutrition, pharmacology, parasitology, anesthesia and medical and surgical assistance of animals, disease prevention, hygiene and maintenance of the work area.
Graduates of the programs will be trained to comply with the law and be licensed by approving the veterinary technicians and technologists, board examination from Puerto Rico and the Veterinary Technology National Examination (VTNE) for the United States. Once licensed, professionals can work with animals in veterinary hospitals, clinics, research facilities in industry or academia, in educational institutions, animal shelters, sanctuaries and commercial, police and military facilities, among other scenarios.
Students admitted to the associate degree program at Yabucoa will move to the main Campus in the second year, to complete the concentration courses.
The Department of Veterinary Technology in the Gurabo campus has been accredited by the Committee of Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) of the American Veterinary Medical Association since March 2018.
